Aboriginal artist, Dhinawan paiting for Quiksilver Australia

Quiksilver Australia has invited Aboriginal artist Dhinawan to play a bigger role in this year surfing event. After performing the opening ceremony , Dhinawan will commence the creation of an “interactive Aboriginal cave painting mural” of 20 metres at the Quiksilver Pro media launch at Snappers Rock this Thursday.
Using traditional ochre paint and an ancient traditional stencilling process, surfing world champions Kelly Slater and Mick Fanning will be the first to have their hand stencils painted on the art work by Dhinawan right in front of the public’s eyes.
“I am really excited to see Quiksilver embracing Aboriginal culture in such a unique way.”says Dhinawan.”As a surfer myself and a big fan of Mick Fanning and Kelly Slater, I am very honored to have the chance to show them the beauty of my culture!”
“This will be a great to catch up with “11 times World Champion Kelly Slater and ask him where in his house is displayed the surfboard I painted for him
back in 2004!”says Dhinawan.

Since performing at the NRL All Stars 2 weeks ago, Aboriginal ambassador Dhinawan keeps living his dream of combining his love for culture and sport to showcase the beauty of his heritage to the world.
During the Quiksilver Pro surfing event, Dhinawan will be a resident artist for Quiksilver Australia and will make the artwork available adding to the mural where everyone will have the opportunity to add their own handprint next to the one of the Champion Surfers for a gold coin donation. The money raised will go to non for profit organisation Deadly Dancers Aboriginal Incorporated.

The Hon. Paul Lynch MP,Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and Dhinawan

Dhinawan was delighted when The Hon. Paul Lynch MP, Minister for Aboriginal Affairs announced Dhinawan Dreaming won the Encouragement Award.

Brunswick Heads based Indigenous speaker and educator Dhinawan from the Gamillaroi Bigambul tribes has last night received an Encouragement Award for“Education, Learning and Knowledge”.

“I am very surprised and honoured to be receiving this award; I would like to thank the People who nominated me.”

Dhinawan delivers anti‐bullying programs and Aboriginal workshops in primary and high schools. Also as away to foster cultural awareness, Dhinawan established a Corroboree programcalled the Deadly Dancers. Made up of roughly 40 kids aged 5‐17 years of age, the group regularly performs at primary and secondary schools, as well as major events like Splendour in

Dhinawan proudly shows off his Encouragement Award for "Education, Learning and Knowledge".the Grass, Quiksilver Pro, and Lismore Rodeo Show.

These programs have brought the Indigenous Community together and have empowered the children and give them a greater respect for their cultural identity.
